Just received the news this evening that former Town midfielder Ricky Moir has died, aged 74. He joined Town from Shrewsbury in July 1974 (signed by George Mulhall) and made 23 appearances and scored five goals in all competitions during his one season at The Shay.

An amusing story from his time at Shrewsbury. After an away match he was reading a newspaper on the coach on the way home, holding it well away from his face. Manager Harry Gregg suggested Ricky Moir needed glasses and, after an eye test, was duly fitted with contact lenses. He turned up for training wearing them and said something along the lines of, 'Bloody hell, I didn't realise we played in blue!' Before my time but sounds like he was something of a character.
