Nobby Stiles RIP

Recommended Posts

Always looked the most unlikely of players .. but has to be one of England’s best and also the type of character the modern game misses

playing now in footballs Valhalla with some of his mates

looks like we will run out of World Cup winners before we will win it again

Rip Nobby. Watching England win the World Cup as a 10 year old in '66 was one the greatest sporting days of my life. Can't ever imagine what Nobby would have thought of modern day players prancing round the pitch with their 'stockings' pulled over their knees, coiffeured and dyed hair and diamond earrings. Even less any of the Premiership prima donnas riding one his trademark tackles without squealing, rolling over 10 times holding their face and then looking for imaginary blood. A hard man when football still belonged to the people and when Nobby was one their own. Happy bygone days.

Sad news, had been ill for some time but now he and his family are at peace.  Awful illness that drags everybody down. Sad that his family were having to sell his medals to pay for his care ect.

We all hear about the "Makelele Role" but I laugh at all these footy hipsters with such sayings as though they've reinvented the wheel as Nobby was playing it 35 years previous!

RIP Nobby, a true great and an icon. Terrible disease as you say and one made a lot worse by terribly expensive aged care.

So true, we keep hearing all the time how football (and perhaps quite a bit has) but you always have to ask who's agenda is best suited to the narrative and the answer most often leads back to Sky....
