22/04/2019 Player of The Year Awards

Recommended Posts

I weren't sure if the club was going to upload its own footage to vimeo, but anyway here is some of the end of season awards for the 18/19 campaign.

Personally thought that this presentation was a sad reflection on the way the game has gone. My feeling is that players can't be bothered turning up for a special event (as we did in the past at the Weavers, North Bridge and Elland CC) and can't wait to get away quick enough. The whole presentation took less than fifteen minutes, players stood there in single file like children in a school assembly, and then it was all over and they trooped out. Do these players really ever engage with the fans like Rick Holden used to do?

Different, more impersonal and expedient times. I think fewer and fewer people ‘feel part’ of anything any more, including jobbing footballers whose club-attachment seems essentially contract-driven and short-term. More broadly, the apparent deference evident in such popular affectations as badge-kissing and invocation of the heavens upon scoring a goal generally point up the absence of any actual deference to a club and the people who constitute it. Not that I can remember the last time I saw a Town player do that.

Probably Jamie Paterson.

Agree with Shaymus because its been going down hill since 2013,then we had players who would come out onto the pitch for photos with the fans, James Dean,Danny Holland,Simon Garner,Tom Baker,Scott Mcmanus,Mark Bower, but the club don't seem to bother about memories of events so you can understand players not bothering.

Haven’t bothered with a lap of honour for a few years. It’s only a little thing, but it’s good to show support to the players at the end of the season

Maybe pub league players are more grateful than football league players ?

Always did them in the wilder years?

And always did them in the Bosomworth years up until the untimely death of Debbie Charlton . Possibly the organising of the event stirred painful memories of her hard work . This coupled with one or two drunken incidents and a growing disrespect for a popular event that allowed players, fans, management and the board to freely mingle

Yes, some good points raised. It is a shame that the event has been affected by a trajedy and by other sillier moments.

I hope that the event can, over time, get back to normal and fans and all the staff from the club can have a good laugh and a knees up.

Talking of which, the footage from the Conference winning season was great.

Who's up side your head,

Say who's upside your head.

Before everyone gets on the floor and sways from side to side I'm  off to the land of nod.

Night.

Was a great event along with the town hall celebrations but still waiting to be paid but was told the cheque is in the post and check with the post office, the joy of working for our club.
