Historical Photos & Stories (+ why this forum exists)

11 posts in this topic

The centenary material on the club's website (http://www.halifaxafc.co.uk/page/Centen ... 37,00.html) has proved popular so, when the club gets a new site in June/July, we are intending to expand this to include:

* Approx 7,000 photos dating back to the early years of Halifax Town AFC’s history, to all be viewable (and expandable, unlike this season) at once

* The results of every game that the club ever played

* A short report of each match where possible - this will be a work-in-progress

* A number of “memory” matches with longer reports

* It is hoped to include a photograph of most players to have appeared for the club

* A profile of the players where possible - again a work-in-progress

* “Curiosity” stories from through the years, travelling a timeline and picking out the non-footballing stories that have made the headlines

* Fans’ memories (Town and opposing) within the bounds of “libel and good taste”!

* We are also inviting fans to submit any photographs for inclusion on the website.

* Former players' recollections

Work is starting on this now. We have an empty canvass so if anybody has any ideas please post in this sub-forum or submit to the club.

Please also post any memories or historical photographs in this sub-forum or e-mail to the club at kellygilchrist@halifaxafc.co.uk. Any posting is deemed to carry the user's permission for use on the official club website. Please respect the laws of libel

Cheers

How about a 'team of the century' section? Decided by the fans. Id love to see what the team of the century would look like and if any of todays players would be near getting into it.

Something that could be worth doing. Only problem would be that everybody remembers last few years but good players in 1911 would only be remembered by Shaymus! Plenty of time to think about how to arrange this. Maybe a couple from each decade.

Yes, it would need somekind of shortlist for each posistion and need to cover the decades.

And Steve Lumb - who was actually there.

Could do a team for each decade. Early decades from 1911- 1950 could be based on appearances, scoring records, clean sheets etc while 1950's onwards could be voted on. Courier could be used to promote the initiative, which might help in terms of attracting the interest of the more mature fan :)

LOVE IT .... And then in X Factor style gradually eliminate players until we reach the 'ULTIMATE TOWN TEAM' :D

Serious voting only though ... No mentions of Fyfe, Painter, Edwards (Elf), Tate, Potter, Futcher etc.
